The Vladimir Becić Elementary School in Osijek organized for the first time a large initiative called Christmas with Becić, in which almost the entire school participated, but about 40 students of the school were the "main" organizers together with their teachers.
At the Antonio Gala school, aware of the global importance of environmental care and concerned about the lack of responsibility and sensitivity towards nature and animals, they decided to take action: to raise awareness among the school’s families about the presence of the bee-eater, a bird that nests in vulnerable places in the city park, in order to prevent them from destroying their breeding areas.
At La Loma school, students have led actions to learn about and reflect on a rare disease, known as ‘Butterfly Skin’, to give it visibility, as it has little support at the social-health and research level. Affected families need economic and human resources to be able to care for their children. Students also raised awareness of how these problems are even greater in impoverished countries.
Taking care of nature and experiencing the values of care and collaboration by bringing different generations closer is at the heart of this Service Learning project carried out by class 2A of the "Busti" primary school in Verona.
The students often talk about their grandparents who live far away in another country. The characteristics of the neighborhood where the project was carried out highlighted the strong need to strengthen and revive relationships between different generations to bring closer geographically distant but emotionally close relationships.
The project, led by the 5A and 5B classes of the “E. Salgari” primary school in San Martino Buon Albergo, Verona province, has its roots in a very significant meeting between the students and Prof. Fabio Caon, co-author with the judge Gherardo Colombo of the book “Chi è Stato? Come diventare cittadini responsabili” ("Who Did It? How to Become Responsible Citizens").
From November 2022 to May 2023, the fourth-grade students at "A. Busti" primary school engaged in a Service Learning project titled "Reclaiming Beauty."
This initiative aimed to involve students in activities that foster their participation and leadership in enhancing the "common good."
Young citizens have learned to recognize waste to correctly sort it and improve the surrounding environment. These are the children from the second grade of the primary school in Cologna Veneta, who, accompanied by their teacher, Renata Dal Monte, undertook a Service Learning project, also supported by a group of volunteers known as the "Collectors of Others' Incivility". After delving into the topic of waste separation, the children got to work to apply what they had learned by creating bins to use and practice their skills. All of this was done with active dynamics and great attention to inclusion, promoted through peer education and mutual support.
Reading is crucial as it broadens perspectives and nurtures numerous skills. However, it is increasingly seen as a tedious activity. How can we foster a love for reading within our community and make it accessible to all?
This question drove the students of class 2A at the "Carlotta Aschieri" Institute in San Pietro in Cariano (VR) to develop a service benefiting the entire town located in the Veronese hills.
Angiari is a small municipality in the Province of Verona where the primary school "Francesco Dal Cer" is very active, hosting children from six classes, ranging from first to fifth grade.
The entire school complex has been involved in a Service Learning project dedicated to environmental care and the redevelopment of a small forest near the school, thanks to the collaboration of the Municipality and the local section of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI).
The children followed differentiated paths based on their age, tackling a common objective linked to fulfilling their part within SDG 15 "Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss."
This Service Learning project involved a second-year class of students from the "Manzoni" school in the Golosine district. The project centered on public green spaces as clean and culturally vibrant community areas. The primary issue identified was the difficulty in living some parks by the citizens due to neglect, insecurity, and a lack of cultural promotion.
In the period from December 2022 to June 2023, the entire Fran Krsto Frankopan Elementary School in Osijek organized a set of Service Learning activities focused on common values and global education. Around 346 school students participated in the activities.
