Young citizens have learned to recognize waste to correctly sort it and improve the surrounding environment. These are the children from the second grade of the primary school in Cologna Veneta, who, accompanied by their teacher, Renata Dal Monte, undertook a Service Learning project, also supported by a group of volunteers known as the "Collectors of Others' Incivility". After delving into the topic of waste separation, the children got to work to apply what they had learned by creating bins to use and practice their skills. All of this was done with active dynamics and great attention to inclusion, promoted through peer education and mutual support.
The outing with the volunteers made the area around the school cleaner and more pleasant, reinforcing the values of respect for others and the environment, collaboration, and collective responsibility.
The young students involved their families by sharing what they had done and promoting waste separation at home as well. Now they are more conscious and environmentally aware citizens, with new skills to utilize in the coming years.
